Currently, we do an hour of sustained reading weekly, in addition to in-class independent reading time. My students are sitting in hard, plastic chairs while hunched over desks, reading for nearly an hour some days, while fluorescent lights beam overhead.
My goal is to provide my students with a cozy, comfortable, and safe place to read in my classroom. By adding additional lights to my classroom, I will be able to turn off the harsh overhead lights and provide a comforting feel to my room, and allow them to move around the room to read wherever they are most comfortable.
