My students struggle with socialization and making new friends outside of the classroom. We work on social skills daily in my classroom, and my students with autism are fairly comfortable talking, playing, and socializing with each other. Outside of my classroom, in general education classrooms they are less comfortable with their peers.
Video Game Club gives our students with autism the opportunity to "break the ice," make friends, and enjoy playing games with their general education peers, in a comfortable and safe setting. Having updated game consoles is important to achieve my goal, as the older game systems are not as motivating for our kids to want to join Video Game Club.
