Students are happier, more motivated, and more focused when they are given the opportunity to choose a comfortable seat at school. They don't want to sit on a hard, plastic desk chair for six or seven hours any more than an adult does. I love providing my students with a variety of fun and comfortable seating options.
I have noticed a huge difference in my students' engagement when they have a non-traditional seat. They are excited to come to school. They feel ready to tackle their work and are less inclined to distract their peers.
Wobble stools and ball chairs encourage kids to focus on their work but also engage in some much-needed movement at the same time. Many of my students have a difficult time sitting still during the long school day. These types of seats work wonders in allowing them to move and wiggle but still stay on task.
I am hoping to add these seating options to my classroom in order to continue supporting the varied ways in which students learn best.
