With students either being at home or in the classroom without manipulatives for all or most of last year, students are struggling more than ever with basic math fluency. Giving my students individual math toolboxes will allow them to remain safe while using tangible objects to understand concepts of addition, subtraction, problem solving, place value, and equal groups.
Fairness means everyone getting what they need to succeed and these toolboxes with help me differentiate instruction at all levels of learning.
The plastic boxes are large enough to fit the hundreds flats and are stackable for easy storage. The colored base ten blocks allow students to see the difference based on the shape and color of each unit. Counters are always useful as students can use them in all operations; addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. Students love using the whiteboard for math fluency, but second graders go through markers like water! Having extra markers will ensure my kiddos are set for the year. Thank you!
