The materials that can be purchased, through Donors Choose, will help some of my students not worry about having what they need to be successful in my classroom. With my teaching/coaching salary I am only able to buy so much each year. With these supplies, I will be able to ensure that each student has what they need in my class. I will be able to help reignite their learning by eliminating the thought of being the only kid in class who can't afford supplies. Believe it or not, there are so many students who can't think about class because they are thinking about how they can help make ends meet at home.
In my classroom every student makes a journal that we write in every week. We make these journals out of binders and colorful paper. The last few years I have had an increase of students who can't afford these materials. I have had to find random binders laying around that don't "look" like their peers binders do. We all know that to junior high kids, this is life shattering to them, when they don't feel like they have what their peers have. By providing the smallest of supplies, my students can be excited about class, instead of worried about not having what they need.
