The tablets will be a great addition to our classroom because it will allow the students extra practice on learning their letter sounds from different locations in the classroom, rather than from their desks. It will also allow them to be creative through the educational apps. With a classroom family of kindergartners, staying on task can be very difficult especially staying in on area all day. Although I teach the lesson plans using catchy tunes or phrases, some students need additional support during centers. The apps on the tablets will provide playful actions that support our learning and inspire additional discussions if it pertains to a book we’re reviewing. They also offer visual support for the action words.
For children with minimal exposure to technology or limited English, the tablet can help increase comprehension and vocabulary. For example, I can show a photo of a giraffe, explain what a giraffe is, share a video clip of it in its natural habitat, and further explore the topic through educational activity apps.
