Being a first year teacher, I am learning many new things. I am working on excelling the needs of my students. I want my classroom to be a safe and welcoming environment for each of them. Some of my students are eager to learn to read, but some see it as a chore. I discussed with the students the idea of getting a reading carpet and new flexible (fun) chairs to sit in for silent reading and for class read aloud's. This boosted their excitement for reading!
My entire first grade classroom will be served in this project. This community is made up of students from military and low income families. Sensory processing approach is a way to create an activity and adjustments in the classroom to create a more friendly/fun way for students to be successful in reading. In this low income area, I want to provide students with a great reading center. This project will engage the students because it will affect their reading in everyday life.
My students will use this rug and flexible seating for alternative seating, a place to relax, and where we will have group instruction. Rugs help produce a comfortable place for teachers and students to expand their learning space onto the floor. This will benefit them by giving them reward time on the rug and encourage them that reading is fun! Students that find reading hard and more of a chore will benefit from this project by making this space a warm and safe place for learning.
