My goal is to provided my students with the books that they want to read. Allowing them the opportunity to choose makes all the difference. Not only will they be working on fluency, but they will also develop a love for reading.
We are constantly competing with technology and social media, but think of what could possibly change if they learn the power of a book.
My students have the opportunity to read in class every day. It has become something that they want to do rather than have to do, which is exciting! There are always books requested that may not be in my classroom library or in our small school library. The books that I have selected are not only requested by my students and great reads, but they are books that they can relate to and use as a way to cope with similar issues in their own life.
I see their interest in reading and I will continue to work towards provided them with a growing library of books that they choose to read.
