I teach in a title one school where funds are limited to the special education or low achieving students. I teach a classroom of gifted and talented students. These students are very successful academically. As a teacher of the g/t I am constantly meeting their academic needs. I can plan a lesson for them to learn one concept, and through peer/guided conversations the lesson can go much deeper then anticipated. Some days these students are teaching me. As a district we do not have a set curriculum for the g/t program so all lessons in every subject are created by me with the help of my peers and state standards. We are able to be very flexible and creative. These types of lessons are needed to meet the needs of our students. My students love to work in cooperative groups and my lessons are created to meet those needs. My students love to share their writing, drawings and problem solving strategies and it is very difficult to leave the classroom to make a copy for everyone.
