This year our school is focusing on Accelerated Reading (AR). Accelerated Reading (AR) as it is commonly called is a computer program that help educators manage and monitor students independent reading practice. Each student select books at their independent reading level and read at their individual pace. When finish with each book the student will take a short quiz on the computer.
To make it fun and engaging for the students I have put together a challenge by grade levels and classes. Students will earn points by reading and taking the AR quiz. For every 25 points the student will earn a prize, the higher the points (to 100) the better the prize. The theme is race cars, "Read to the finish." Every time a student earn 25 points his or her car moves forward closer to the finish line.
