As a high school health science teacher, I incorporate many aspects of my training as a nurse into the daily curriculum I teach. Infection control is the foundation of disease prevention, and my students learn this in all of their career tech Health Science classes. COVID-19 has impacted education in many ways, but it has actually made it easier to teach infection control tactics to my students. They have a real understanding of what is required of them to stay as healthy as possible.
Many students have voiced concerns about our water fountains. Fountains have been shut off for the majority of the pandemic, but are in use this year. Many students are not comfortable using the traditional fountains due to transmission possibilities. We do not have any bottle filler fountains at the main campus of the school so students must bring bottled water from home if they choose to hydrate during the day. This creates a financial burden that most can not afford. My Health Science classes and I would like to change that! Help us to get safer fountains to keep students hydrated!
