Students will learn safe food handling techniques and basic kitchen hygiene. We will learn how to prepare ingredients as well as methods of cooking such as browning, roasting, braising, baking. We will learn how to make basics such as salad dressings and sauces from scratch. We will learn to create meals with an emphasis on using cheap and healthy ingredients that students may not have been exposed to previously. Lessons could include making dishes such as quinoa tabbouleh or lentil soup with focaccia or exploring meals made with a rotisserie chicken. We will end each session by enjoying a meal together.
