I love connecting concepts from other content areas to my art lessons. I feel that it is important to make real life connections and include a variety of subjects to keep my students engaged. Having a carpet will allow the students and myself to sit together for a daily check-in with each other. It is so important to me that I have a sense of community in the art room and having a space we can all go every class will give me that opportunity.
My students love to read and to use literacy connections in their artwork. Having a carpet will be a perfect place for my students to come together and read a story as a class. My students are noticeably more engaged when I have a place for them to start art calmly. At the rug I will be able to create routines such as breathing exercises and strategies for dealing with stress that my students can use during art time.
I want to give all of my students the opportunity to experience a community where they feel safe and prepared for any challenges they may face!
