The subjects being worked on with this project were difficult to teach online last year. As a result, I am seeing learning gaps in the mastery of reading, math, and writing standards.
Because of online learning last year, only four of my 27 students have any of their multiplication facts memorized, or have any understanding of place value.
4.NBT.B5 (Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations.) Memorization was expected in third grade or sooner. This is making our math units very difficult for students. The multiplication and division flashcards will assist with their fluency and ensure proficiency.
Literacy standards- RI.4.2, RI.4.5, RI.4.10,RL.4.1, RL.4.3, RL.4.4RL.4.10, L.4.1-2
Each of these reading and language standards represent an area in my students reading, writing, and language skills that are behind grade level. I have quite a few students that are several grade levels behind in their reading comprehension and fluency. The books I have chosen in English and the bilingual books should motivate my students to read more.
