Learning a second language I believe is beautiful and essential. My students and their families believe this as well. Having the resources to help with learning a second language can be difficult, but with your help our classroom can get Spanish books needed to build fluency and comprehension with exciting books at their reading levels. During independent reading students want to read books about animals and are also interested in stories about children like themselves.
In addition to Spanish books I strive to keep culturally responsive books in my classroom so that all my students can see themselves as a main character in a story. In my classroom students know that their voices are important, what they have to say matters. I love to read culturally responsive books as read alouds because after each book our classroom talks about their thoughts and connections to the stories, all while practicing Spanish!
