Students need books that they can relate to and not just copied materials. We rarely get new novels and students hate copied versions. Students need newer material that they can relate to. Students struggle with reading and need to be able to connect with the materials provided. Dear Martin is a novel that students will quickly connect with which will provide meaningful discussions in class as well as something for the students to write about. The students will be engaged and want to read whereas normally they struggle with connecting to novels.
