The students in my 5/6 combination class live in a small, agricultural town with little to no recreational activities and facilities. The school grounds are the town's only "park" and soccer field on the weekends. The school also has two tennis courts that have not been used for years. I am trying to provide my students with experiences and opportunities outside their cultural norms in the classroom and outside as much as possible.
The tennis equipment for this project would give me the opportunity to teach my students how to play tennis. They would have an opportunity to learn a sport that they can play in their community continuously throughout their lives and possibly carrying into high school. I hope to give them the skills and confidence to tryout for this team sport at their high school if they choose to pursue this goal.
