Each year my students write letters and send cards for different holidays to the Nursing Care facility in our area. I use this opportunity to teach them writing skills that include grammar and punctuation. The elderly people in our community really look forward to receiving the letters and often write the students back. This year we discovered that there are about 7 or 8 former students who are currently serving in our armed forces. We plan to incorporate them into our project. With emails and other technologies, the art of letter writting is a lost form. But we get so many positive responses from our letters. It really brightens people’s day!
