I have collected reading materials for students to have a choice in reading selections. I feel our focus this year on exploring identity and intersectionality through culturally responsive books and reading selection this donors choose will give students access to books that are not available to them at this time.
Students have been exposed to some of the authors and are requesting to read more by them. I feel this is a great time to give them a choice in what they read and allow them to read in a small group with other who have chosen the same title.
More genuine growing and learning will take place when they make this choice. I also believe they will have deeper discussions on the topics in their books and will be more inclined to writing on the themes that stood out to them.
