Many of my students can dysregulate throughout the day making it near impossible to learn. I want to create a safe space for them to re-regulate with a variety of calming and sensory tools. Once they return to a calm mind and a calm body they can continue their day.
We work on developing healthy and positive coping skills, mindfulness skills, emotion identification of self and others, building empathy, social skills, and problem solving skills. My list of supplies will assist in providing visuals and age and developmentally appropriate learning opportunities to understand these complex topics and learn a new skill as well as provide real-time experience in regulating their minds and bodies rather than just talking about it. Each student is different in how they respond to external stimuli and offering a variety of tools will help the student understand themselves better and what helps them to return to a calm, ready to learn state.
