The use of small groups is a daily activity in my classroom, especially during math and guided reading. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of my students were not able to attend pre-kindergarten. creating a lot of knowledge gaps in my classroom. The use of the learning resources requested will allow students to build math and early literacy skills.
I am a firm believer in the power of learning through play. Play enables young learners to explore and make sense of the world around them. My kindergarteners thoroughly enjoy using games and hands-on materials to understand concepts much more than paper worksheets. Using the learning materials requested will allow me to scaffold instruction in order to strengthen their math and early literacy skills.
In math, the resources that I have requested will assist my students in strengthening their one-to-one correspondence and number identification skills. In guided reading, the requested resources will allow for me to begin focusing on phonemic awareness, an extremely important skill as kindergarteners learn to read.
The learning resources that have been requested will allow for my young scholars to access math and early literacy concepts in a way that feels most comfortable for them. I will also be able to continue providing interactive and engaging one on one support for my students in a small group.
