My class will be reading the Just Mercy novel by Bryan Stevenson. The book is about a man wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death. The novel also explores other issues of our criminal justice system. Students will read the novel in our Judicial Branch Unit. This book is an amazing resource because it shows how far our criminal justice has progressed and how it is designed to ensure justice. Having a class set of a novel we are reading in class allows students to take the book home with them. Having guided discussions helps students to connect the themes of the book to the concepts we are discussing in class.
