I have requested a color printer so we can provide our students with color pictures while using a Picture Exchange Communication System.
We work with a Picture Communication Exchange System with our non-verbal students. We need a color printer so we can print out pictures of daily classroom objects and actions for our non-verbal students to express their wants and needs through pointing or handing out the pictures.
RL.3.1 Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers. (2)
For example, while reading a book, a non-verbal student is given pictures of objects or situations referring to the book.
The student chooses the right answer by pointing to, handing or selecting the correct picture.
It gives the students the opportunity to interact, express the themselves and feel part of a classroom discussion.
At the same time, appropriate expectations of communication rules are modeled and practiced with students.
