The three iPads will help me promote the Nevada Academic Standards in my classroom in a variety of ways. To help alleviate the crushing impact of Covid on my student population I have been running an extended day program at no cost to the parents or the school. Three days a week I invite up to 25 students to get an additional hour of academic instruction. I invite kiddos who need academic and/or emotional support.
During these sessions, the students with my guidance and support, use technology, including the internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others (W.4(4-6)). Students will use iPads as a tool to engage more fully in the learning experiences.
Additionally, these iPads will be used by students to conduct research (W.4(7-9)) in science and social studies. The iPads will be a great tool for students to present in a variety of formats to complement their traditional writing tasks. Allowing the students to record themselves sharing their knowledge gives greater access and ensures equity in the classroom.
Lastly, I strive to ensure College and Career readiness for my students. The iPads will give my students additional tools to present information, findings, and supporting evidence such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning. These skills will be instrumental to their success in school and in life.
