I work as an occupational therapist with students with special needs. My students need access to flexible seating and other sensory tools such as fidgets, tactile input, weighted vests, vibration, and appropriate oral tools to chew on.
By providing students with sensory strategies and tools such as flexible seating it helps my students achieve self regulation which enables them to actively participate in classroom activities and learn.
When my student are lacking access to sensory tools and strategies they have increased behaviors and meltdowns through the school day as they seek this input there nervous system craves. This impacts there ability to learn and participate in there classroom environment.
