During the pandemic my students were often isolated and forced to learn by interacting with a screen. They had limited opportunites or motivation to work on supporting mental health through physical activity in a structured environment. My students receive a daily recess break to help improve memory, attention, and concentration. I use this time to help students navigate how to improve social and emotional development by learning how to share and negotiate.
I want these students to take a break from screen time and feel the confidence and success that comes from competing in organized outside activities. Through organized team sports such as volleyball, kickball, and tennis baseball, these students will learn to collaborate and cooperate during structured recess times.
Exercise contributes to cardiovascular health. Improved cardiovascular health leads to better emotional stability and reduced anxiety in students and adults.
