The students will use their math whiteboards during whole class and small group instruction. This will allow me to determine whether my students have a strong understanding of each concept. I will be able to give students immediate feedback to support those students that do not understand. I will also see the students that grasp the concept and need to be pushed further.
Our diverse classroom is made up of students reading at many different levels. I will be able to meet the needs of all of my students as they choose books that are at their reading level. These books will enhance our classroom library. Struggling students will be challenged in small group guided reading as they work to become independent readers. Our strong readers will be given opportunities to push their reading even further as they continue to improve their skills. These books have been chosen with our students in mind. They will be motivated to read as they are given choice. Students are more engaged when they are given the opportunity to choose books that interest them.
All lessons will be aligned with the Nevada Academic Content Standards.
We will have flexible seating in our classroom. This means that when students are working, they have the freedom to find comfortable spaces around the room to work. Research shows that students are able to focus and do their best work when they are comfortable.
