Our students have had to learn many abstract math concepts without the benefit of hands on manipulatives due to COVID. Between distance learning and the inability to share learning materials, the opportunities to get their hands on math tools have been minimal. We want to take some of these harder to understand concepts (algebra and geometry-specifically nets and surface area) and put the tools in the hands of the students. We all know that approaching learning through different modalities helps with learning and retention. Our goal is to address NVACS 6.EE.1-6.EE.9 and 6.G.1-4 through multiple modalities, including hands on manipulatives. Increasing student engagement and deepening their understanding will also increase their self-esteem and love of learning.
