I am a first year teacher and a little over a month into school I have realized that my students need more supplies than I am able to give them. I work in a low income neighborhood and the truth is that my students need my help to give them the supplies they need to succeed. This means crayons, pencils, paper, comfortable seating, and books to catch their imaginations so that we can write in journals and have a safe space in the classroom.
Success in the classroom is the first step to succeeding at life. After a hard year last year, I want to be able to give my students every opportunity to succeed this year and give them the tools to succeed every year after!
