My middle school students had so many different experiences the last few years, but one thing is clear: they crave social experiences and ones that allow them to work hands-on and SEE the progress they are making. My interactive notebooks allow them to track all of their learning and build pride.
My students deserve to be able to see how much they have grown. Interactive notebooks allow them to constantly see where they started and know for a fact that they are incredibly talented readers and writers every single day. In these notebooks, not only do they learn new material, but they collaborate, manipulate, connect, and reflect constantly. It gives them a creative outlet, and it also provides them with a safe space for them to explore their own reading and writing.
With this new era of education, technology is still a vital part of our everyday lives. Headphones will allow my students to complete their intervention work, use text to speech technology to review their writing, and have access to audiobooks. The gift cards for Teacher Pay Teachers will allow me to continue to utilize engaging lessons that are focused on real world problem solving and that use best practices.
As a result of COVID, my students need individualized goals to fill in gaps from the last two school years. These goals vary depending on their experience, and having a focus on hands on materials allow my students to work within their own abilities and for me to manipulate the material individually for those who need scaffolding or enrichment.
The most essential reading and writing goals we will be working on will pertain to using evidence from grade level texts to prove claims and arguments, which covers 7th grade Literature Art standards RL.7.1, RI.7.1, W.7.1, W.7.2, W.7.4, and W.7.7.
