Children need access to a variety of books to improve their literacy skills. Many families are unsure about which books are appropriate for their students or are unable to afford books of their own. My goal is to set up a rich and colorful classroom library filled with a variety of enticing reading choices.
As a result of the global COVID pandemic, children have fallen much further behind than anticipated. For many of my students, this is their first experience in a school. I want to give them opportunities to read in class, in small groups, and at home. With so much time spent in distance learning, my students do not want to go back on Chromebooks! They want to feel the pages of a real book in their hands. Many don't know how to orient the book or turn pages. Creating a full classroom library is essential for these children.
This project promotes all of the reading NACS. The books will also be used in a variety of ways and in cross-curricular lessons with writing and language as well.
