A lot of the students lost a lot of social emotional skills during COVID. In order to address the Health Standard related to Mental and Emotional Health (ME.5.1-2) I chose some jump ropes, playground balls, socio-emotional poster and fidget toys for my students. Keeping good health is essential to having a healthy mind. Students can learn good coping skills by using the fidget toys and they can learn to interact in fun and healthy ways with each other through the use of the outdoor equipment.
I teach math and we use the white boards a lot. I work at a title I school and student's families don't often have the means to buy students classroom supplies. The whiteboard markers, erasers, scissors and pencils will go towards helping my students have a more interactive experience while working on math.
In addition to math I teach science, social studies and health. A lot of the posters I chose for science relate back to our Earth and Space and Life Science standards. Students will be able to use them as resources when we learn about those topics in class. The science model is very hands on and students will be more excited to learn about how their body works with this in class. Last but not least I chose some pillows for my students to use during reading time. Students will want to work towards keeping the privilege of comfortably sitting on the floor and reading.
