These materials will promote in person learning for both ELA (RF.K.3, RF.1.3) and math (K.CC.B) directly related to content standards. Current students ages Kindergarten through 2nd grade have not yet completed a full year of school with in-person learning year round. This has impeded some learning of basic skills like alphabet letter identification, and sounds and one to one correspondence. These were very difficult to teach accurately through a computer screen. A teacher could model, but offering direct support if a student was counting incorrectly, for example, was nearly impossible.
Now that students are in person, it is so critical to ensure they can produce accurate letter sounds, name letters of the alphabet and increase their number awareness. These supplies will help students with just that in a classroom that offers flexible seating and good organization so that the children can stay focused on the tasks at hand. For example, the counting bears are perfect for counting objects and even for sorting colors. They can be in a labeled box so the students know exactly where to find them and it always gets put back in the correct spot. Flashcards and book bins generate an interest in reading and discovering all about letters.
Using alternative learning strategies like crafts, paint, and drawing capture students attention keeping learning fresh and exciting. It also strengthens their fine motor skills which are also lacking after more than year at home.
