As a new computer teacher for the elementary, I am trying to instill in my students the importance of computers by making it fun and engaging. They can learn skills all day but to have something tangable to hold and take home to their parents and say, "I learned this today", means so much more. Teaching how to copy and paste along with going and retrieving pictures from the web and creating different gliphs would have a greater affect if they could actually hold their finished piece. Also I'm teaching some of the older groups to write papers on specific subjects. It takes me so much longer to grade and email them back to them to finish rather than have them print it out me go over it and mark what was incorrect and they could have it in hand to fix on their already saved file. With the younger groups teaching smaller skills like building a picture from typing lessons would motivate their willingness to do the lessons if they could have the finished pictures to take home to parents who do not have internet access in our rual areas.
