With two AquaSprouts sets, my students will be able to explore ecosystems, botany, life cycles, and healthy living. These aquaponics systems can be treated as different ecosystems, which gives students opportunities to predict a cause and effect relationship between the fish in the fish tank and the plants above the water. (MS-LS2) With flowering plants, students are able to understand how animals and insects are important for the pollination process. (MS-LS1-4) By growing several different species, we can cross-pollinate to observe the variation in genetics in different generations. (MS-LS3-2)
This project not only provides a great tool for various learning standards, but also brings a positive and lively atmosphere to the classroom. This hands-on learning tool gives students green life to look at every day. Students will be growing plants from seed to harvest and will see the nutritional value of eating fresh fruits and vegetables.
