While sitting can be hard for adults it can be harder for students. With some choices students can be more comfortable while learning . Not all students find it comfortable to sit in a hard chair all day and may feel more connected to their learning with the ability to choose their seats.
Connecting with current events and themes students have a level of knowledge they can share with their families at home. With these materials students have a feeling of contributing to family discussions or teaching other in their home what they have learned.
Hands on STEM activities are also useful in fostering thinking while using hands on materials. Not all students learn by just reading. Making and building activities cement concepts otherwise just looked at or read about.
