As a school counselor in an at-risk community, my students often struggle with stability in many areas: housing, food, clothing, transportation and oftentimes within their family unit. I strive to offer them a therapeutic, calming space in school where students feel safe and comfortable to open up about those struggles, and begin the hard work of processing and adopting coping skills that will help them experience success both academically and personally. Providing a welcoming office sets the tone for the hard work we do together each day.
