21st Century technology skills are a key component in today's society and our classroom. It is important that students learn as early as possible how to independently navigate technology and use it as the vital tool and resource it is.
The more reliable the tool, the more productive the work. Our classroom is in need of efficient headphones during allotted centers tech time. The students are phenomenal at sharing the headphones we do have, but they are limited in quantity and don't eliminate noise that occurs when other groups are actively engaging in teamwork and discourse during their hands on centers. Students try to be mindful of the volume, but with 23 students in a classroom, noise is part of our process.
On top of better quality headphones, having an individual set means less time spent in transitions to clean materials before the next group gets to use the devices. Having an individually assigned headset fosters responsibility and independence in students to care for and clean up the tools assigned to them.
