Students came to school this year with some academic gaps. The items I chose will allow us to create some real life examples that are authentic to each student's life.
Most of the items are manipulatives that students did not have access to over the last year and a half. Each item will provide a more enriching experience for the students. Items like the magnets and sheet protectors allow me to distribute problems and work around the room so that students can work on activities and problems and are not confined to their seats. Dry erase markers that have fine points will allow students to write on the sheet protectors in fine detail while abiding by COVID restrictions. The rulers and white boards will make it easy for each student to demonstrate their work in large format so that the proper distance is maintained between students and others in the classroom. The digital clock will allow for the proper monitoring of students as they log their day. Because of the two vital missed years of learning, they may not be able to consistently and accurately tell time.
The items were picked in quantities that will allow my two sections to feel like the property within the room is theirs. Having these items will give the students a feeling of ownership and a sense of community.
