These resources will help assist over 350 students from grades pre-k through 5th grade. Students will be able to come into the counselor's office and feel like a second home. It will be made cozy and accessible to where they can express their emotions/feelings through the difficult times of COVID during the last year and a half. The toys, games, fidgets, journals, art supplies, posters, etc. will allow for students who are experiencing anxiety, depression, or any other feeling to self regulate and be able to calm down. Behaviors have skyrocketed in schools and supporting students from a social/ emotional standpoint as a counselor is a priority. Unfortunately, we do not always have the means to purchase age appropriate materials or make our offices feel welcoming and cozy.
This is my first year as a elementary school counselor and I believe my students will benefit tremendously with the materials included in this project.
It will allow me as a professional to have more access to the things they like and enjoy. The office will be such a welcoming place with bean bags and bounce balls and cool lighting. It will be most importantly be a place where they feel safe and are able to express whatever is going on. Students have such a difficult time learning and with everything that has happened in their lives and working in Title I school they need to see brightness and happiness. All of these supplies will allow them to grow and have a place they can call home. Having someone they can trust makes all the difference but elementary students gravitate towards play and these materials will allow them to express what is going on at home and/or at school.
