My classroom is a safe space for students to visit for small group counseling and individual support. Flexible seating, like bean bags, will help my students feel more comfortable while in my classroom, which will encourage greater sharing and participation. I have one chair like this already, and it is by far the most popular seating choice for students coming to speak with me; students feel safe when they are able to choose where they sit and can get comfortable. The screens for the fluorescent lights will also add to the calming feel of my classroom. The fidgets (water towers and modeling clay) will provide my students with something to manipulate while they talk; my kiddos seem to open up and speak more freely when they can keep their hands busy. Last, the growth mindset and feelings journals will be fantastic tools for my small groups, for check-in/check-out meetings and individual support.
My students will benefit from having a more comfortable space where they feel safe enough to visit when they need - these materials will create a supportive atmosphere where students can freely express themselves and work on critical social-emotional skills. Any support you can provide to help me create this calming space for my students would be SO appreciated!!
