It鈥檚 been made quite clear that students need different resources in response to the COVID 19 pandemic. Students need more opportunities to develop their problem solving skills while at the same time learning to work cooperatively in small groups. Students will benefit from interactions together that redefine how to properly work together to play, and solve problems.
STEAM Buckets are plastic boxes filled with an engineering manipulative of your choice, such as LEGO bricks, pattern blocks, Magna Tiles, Blueprint Blocks. In addition, students will have access to sensory dough which enhances fine motor skills, improves pre-writing skills, ignites creativity, and creates opportunities for social development. In addition, giving students access to sensory dough can have a very calming and soothing effect.
STEAM Buckets can be placed on an easily accessible shelf in the classroom or inside a classroom makerspace. During a designated time of the day, students can take a STEAM Bucket to their seat or a carpet area and get a quiet moment to engineer independently or with a partner. And instead of being just 鈥渂usy,鈥 students are engaged in creative, complex tasks and are encouraged to think like inventors. Kinesthetic learners, spatial learners, and logical learners will love exploring the different possibilities for the building materials.
