When considering seating solutions for the classroom, I am looking for ways to enhance the students' learning environment and the learning experience by introducing an active and flexible seating. Students are already being sent to a place where they probably don't want to be. So, how can the environment be enhanced to better accommodate their learning experience? Active seating, especially when selecting multiple different types of active seating, empowers the student by providing a choice and some control over their environment. By providing some type of flexibility and options with the student's choice in seating you provide them a little bit of control in their learning environment. By providing some type of flexibility and options with the student’s choice in seating you provide them a little bit of control in their learning environment. Let’s be honest, sitting constantly throughout the day gets a little mundane. We all like to move we all like to adjust. The same way standing desk add flexibility in a work environment, active seating provides flexibility in the classroom without loosing control of the class. Active seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. More importantly burns off some of cooped up energy that students keep stored, which typically gets burned off by causing chaos in the classroom. Active seating options stimulate students' sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. Sensory input is especially helpful for students with unique learning considerations.
