We are in need of literature for Reader's Workshop! These books will help my students become independent readers and writers. In addition, they will be used for ELA activities to address the following ELA standards: ELA RL. 2.1, RL 2.3, RL 2.4, RL 2.5, RL 2.6, and RL 2.10. The students will use these books to do the following objectives: Ask questions and understand key details in text; describe how characters respond to events in the story; practice and detect rhythm and rhyme; notice the character's point of view, and become fluent readers of 2nd grade text by the end of the year.
The books I requested are class favorites and they will be used to build reading fluency, apply grade level phonics skills, and practice comprehension strategies. They especially love the books by Mo Willems. In addition to reading these stories during Reader's Workshop, the students will also use the books for Reader's Theater and Writer's Workshop. Stories like "We Are In a Book" have inspired my students to write their own creative stories.
