Many do not know that there are California Physical Education Standards that allow PE teacher to teach Archery at school. There is a tremendous amount of structure, self-control, and discipline needed in order to teach archery. Archery is an activity that not many students get to experience and engages students in a way that allows teachers to teach structure, self-control, and discipline.
Archery can be very dangerous, but it is also a tool that can teach kids etiquette. Students working in partners of three, one student is drawing their arrow, the other behind them correcting their form, and the last one holding arrows for the shooter. All students are quiet, no one is saying a word, just focused on the target. All commands from the teacher are followed to a T; draw! aim! fire! cease fire! No one even touches their bow without their commands. There is beautiful etiquette that is learned through the sport of archery.
