Headphones allow students to receive text-to-speech testing accommodations, block out distracting noises, listen to music they enjoy, and watch educational videos at their own pace. My middle school students love to listen to music as they work. Music has been proven to help a learner's brain absorb and understand information more easily. Headphones allow students to listen to music they enjoy. Text-to-speech accommodations are crucial for my students with IEPs and English Language Learners. Without headphones, they are not able to receive the important accommodations needed that help them succeed.
