I have selected 3D models of cells as we have students with diverse needs— giving them this to touch and manipulate will help solidify a relatively abstract concept. I have also chosen invertebrate animal samples from places our students in rural Nevada may never see up close. Looking on the net can open their eyes, but after working in a museum… having a specimen in your hand and examining it up close is a very visceral feeling. You truly examine it and see the eyes, hair and more. As with dissection of a simple thing like a squid… something we may can’t even get at our local one grocery store… but we can learn so much from…
