One routine in our class is Independent Reading 3 days a week. I've been thrilled with how focused and engaged the students have been with their books. I have scavenged some books for our class library, and brought in many of my own books, but at this pace I'm sure the students will start running out of options that interest them soon! I need funding to buy high interest, accessible books that my students can access to foster their love of reading. Furthermore, since I teach mostly young people of color, I want to fill our library with books that include characters who look like them.
