Chinese is an extremely difficult language for students to learn. Having hands-on, culture-immersed, creative, and easily accessible lessons can make learning much more enjoyable and successful. All these items are intended to enhance students' classroom experiences with Chinese. For example, instead of showing students pictures of cultural items, I want to teach students how to make Chinese knots with strings to create cultural charms that they can take to share with friends and family. Instead of students going through stacks of notes to search through hundreds of Chinese characters, we learn in class, I want to post them with flipcharts around the room so students can access them with ease. The flashcard game makes recognizing and creating challenging Chinese characters into fun games. The erasers and X-Acto knives will be used for students to engrave their very own Chinese names into name seals.
