Flexible seating allows students who have trouble concentrating in the confines of a chair attached to a desk to move around more so that they can concentrate on the task at hand. High school math classes with 40+ students, particularly now with COVID-19 protocols, don't generally allow for a lot of movement around a classroom. I have quite a few student who struggle to sit for 85 minutes at a time and I have noticed an increased ability to concentrate and less disruptions to their peers if they can stand and wiggle around a little bit while they are working. The desks that I have chosen can be adjusted to a height that will allow the student to write while they are standing, with the option of using a stool where they have move movement options than sitting in the traditional desk with the chair firmly attached. The additional smaller stools can be used for alternative seating for students who wish to work at an extra table I have in my classroom.
